Kolkata Doctor’s Rape-Murder Case
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed the decision by the Calcutta High Court, which came yesterday, to hand over the probe into the rape and murder of the female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to the Central Bureau of Investigation. This heinous incident sparked nationwide outrage, and the medical fraternity has been agitating to press for better security arrangements for the doctors on duty.
It came out to be after Suvendu Adhikari, leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, filed a PIL in the high court for ordering a CBI probe into the matter. Reacting to the development after the court’s order, Adhikari termed it and said, “The last bastion of justice in West Bengal has moved one important step ahead.”.
He insinuated that the state government was attempting to save the perpetrators through a well-woven facade. “In the PIL filed by me and two others, the cat and mouse of the state government in covering up the act by weaving a narrative and falling into a trap of scapegoats is done with. The real culprits shall be targeted and punished,” he declared.
Adhikari also attacked the Mamata Banerjee government for its inability to protect the life of a dedicated doctor and for trying to hush up a heinous crime. “The Hon’ble High Court has reprimanded the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, exposing the dirty tactics they employed in collaboration with influential figures within the state administration,” he said.
Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta – The Last Bastion of Justice in West Bengal, has again come forward as the sentinels of Justice, by transferring the investigation into the horrific and tragic incident at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital to the Central Bureau of Investigation…

Now that the CBI has taken up the investigation process, Adhikari expressed confidence that truth would come out and those guilty would be punished. “I have full faith in the CBI to uncover the truth and ensure justice to the young doctor whose life was tragically cut short. My prayers are with the departed soul and her grieving family,” he added.

The court, headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam, took cognisance that there were certain defects at the hospital administration level after the doctor’s body was found in a seminar hall last Friday. The bench questioned why Dr Sandip Ghosh, then principal of the college did not take effective steps to prevent the incident. It also raised questions over the judgment in giving Dr. Ghosh a new appointment as head of another college when he resigned in the midst of protests.
The High Court opined that though it would have granted much more time to the state police to complete the investigation, the apparent lack of any tangible headway within five days was a good enough reason to transfer the case to the CBI. The court felt that once there was apprehension about evidence being tampered with, the investigations should be immediately handed over to the CBI.
